4 Post Lift FAQ's

How does a 4-post lift work?
The vehicle drives up onto two runways supported by four corner columns. A hydraulic system raises all four posts simultaneously, lifting the car level at height. Most models include safety locks that engage automatically as the lift rises, preventing any drop if hydraulic pressure is lost.
What's the difference between a 2-post and a 4-post lift
It depends on what you're using it for. A 4-post lift drives on and is better suited to storage, MOT roller brake testing, and gearbox work where you still need wheel contact. A 2-post lift picks up by the sills, giving full access to the suspension, brakes, and underside — making it the preferred choice for general servicing. Many workshops run both.
Can I change tyres on a 4-post lift?
Not directly, because the vehicle sits on its wheels, you can't remove them in the standard raised position. For tyre and brake work, you'd need a wheel-free jacking beam accessory, which slots into the runways and lifts the axle clear. This is a popular add-on for workshops that want versatility from a single lift.

Supalign offers a wide range of laser alignment machines, computerised wheel aligners and commercial wheel alignment machines.

We also provide a range of tyre machines, wheel balancers, ADAS kits, vehicle lifts, accessories and service support across the UK.
